Fire rips through factory near Fort Dunlop in Birmingham

A large plume of black smoke was seen coming from a burning factory near Fort Dunlop in Birmingham, UK.
The blaze broke out at an industrial estate near the M6 in the Tyburn area, close to the historic tyre factory, shortly after 3 pm.

The smoke was visible as far as Birmingham Airport. Emergency services rushed to the steel frame sports equipment factory at Hastingwood Industrial Park on Wood Lane.
Firefighters warned people to close their windows and doors while Birmingham Police confirmed they were assisting firefighters to help with road closures nearby. Shop workers and customers close to the incident have been evacuated.
Witnesses reported seeing the smoke from as far away as Solihull, which is 24km from the scene. More than 50 firefighters, 13 fire engines, three 4x4 brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic platform are battling the blaze.
West Midlands Fire Service said: 'Multiple crews are currently in attendance at a fire on Hastingwood Industrial Park, Wood Lane, Erdington. Avoid the area and close your doors and windows if you're affected by smoke. This is a significant incident. Plan your journeys accordingly.'
