Terrifying footage of an air ambulance helicopter spinning out of control and crashing mere yards from moving traffic in Sacramento, California, was published widely in October.
The shocking video of the near miss was quickly picked up by major global news outlets, including the BBC, Metro, The Sun, and more.
A brush with death
The viral clip was recorded by passing motorist Davyd Bychkoviak on a Monday evening. The video shows the Airbus H130 chopper in a deadly spin before it smashed down onto the side of Highway 50. Bychkoviak, who spoke exclusively to ViralPress, described the harrowing experience. 'The helicopter crashed inches away from me. The dust kicked up into my face, and I could feel the wind of the propellers in the car,' he said. Davyd added that if the aircraft had landed on the road, it would have resulted in multiple fatalities.
Official response and aftermath
Despite the dramatic crash, officials reported that only three people were injured in the incident. The Sacramento Fire Department and Federal Aviation Administration confirmed the helicopter, which provides air medical services, went down on the eastbound lanes of Highway 50 near Howe Avenue. Sacramento Mayor Kevin McCarty also acknowledged the 'harrowing helicopter crash'
Turning disasters into dollars
Davyd was understandably shaken by the disaster. Had the helicopter crashed a few yards to the left, it would have hit several cars - including Davyd's. Fortunately, Davyd recorded a video of the crash, and his nerves were steadied by a substantial payment for his trending video from ViralPress. The footage was published across the world, and Davyd received royalties from ViralPress. 'My first instinct was to pick up my phone and record a video,' said Davyd.
