Paris, France – Riot police blocked rioters who tried to break into a car dealership near the end of a protest march in eastern Paris on Saturday, October 24.
Footage released by the Paris Police Prefecture shows lines of officers in helmets standing their ground on a rain-soaked boulevard lined with trees and apartment blocks, as clouds of tear gas drift between them and small groups of protesters.
"At the end of the march route, Cours de Vincennes, rioters tried to get into a car dealership. The rapid intervention of law enforcement prevented them and secured the business," the prefecture said.
The march was part of a nationwide day of protests against the rising cost of living. More than 500 rioters joined the Paris march, police said, and 64 people were arrested, with 40 held in custody.
