Fires and Street Barricades as Violent Unrest Erupts in Barcelona

Violent unrest erupted in central Barcelona on October 24, with fires engulfing municipal rubbish containers and street barricades made from urban furniture. The violence followed a youth gathering near Plaça de Catalunya, where hundreds of people assembled before the situation escalated into clashes with police, arson and looting. Authorities reported 33 fires and damage to 23 shops, while 128 people were arrested, more than half of them minors. Fifteen police officers were also injured during the unrest.
