Multi-Storey Building Collapses in Nairobi’s Eastleigh, Rescue Operations Underway

A multi-storey building has collapsed in the Eastleigh area of Nairobi, Kenya, triggering panic as debris and huge clouds of dust engulfed a busy street. The incident occurred on October 23, 2026. The building was reportedly under construction on its upper floors, while shops were operating on the ground floor and in the basement. According to reports, 67 workers were present at the site when the collapse occurred. Most reportedly managed to escape, while several people associated with the shops were reported missing or potentially trapped. Rescue operations are underway. Kenya’s National Construction Authority has identified the developer, contractor, architect and engineer linked to the project as scrutiny intensifies over construction safety, regulatory approvals and enforcement in Nairobi’s rapidly expanding urban areas.
