A tense situation unfolded during Durga Puja idol immersion in Tufanganj town of West Bengal’s Cooch Behar district, after a large Durga idol suddenly toppled at the Raidak River ghat. The incident took place on Wednesday, October 21, as municipal workers were handling the idol of Tufanganj’s Jai Hind Club for immersion. According to local media reports, the idol lost its balance and fell forward while being moved towards the river, causing several workers to fall beneath it. Dramatic visuals show the idol overturning during the immersion process, triggering panic among those present at the ghat. Around seven to eight municipal workers reportedly sustained minor injuries in the incident. The injured were rushed to Tufanganj Sub-Divisional Hospital, where they received initial medical treatment and were subsequently discharged.
