Istanbul, Türkiye – A public bus navigated a flooded residential street in Eyüpsultan on October 14 as cars sat partially submerged following intense rainfall that hit the city.
X user odin filmed the yellow-and-black bus moving slowly through deep brown water in the Alibeyköy area, creating waves as it passed vehicles stranded along the curbs. Floodwater covered the full width of parts of the roadway.
Eyüpsultan recorded approximately 190 to 204 millimeters of rain during the October 13–14 downpour, among the highest rainfall totals in the city since 1985.
Istanbul reported 1,277 flooding incidents, along with road collapses, landslides and major traffic disruptions. Streets flooded and creeks overflowed in Eyüpsultan, prompting municipal and water utility crews to respond across the district.
The flooding came despite residents reportedly having lived in the area for more than 30 years without witnessing inundation on this scale. The person who posted the footage blamed clogged drains that had not been cleaned beforehand.
Schools were closed the following day, and authorities urged people to avoid flooded roads.
