Heavy Hailstorm Turns Streets of Santiago, Chile, Into a Winter Wonderland

Streets across Santiago, Chile, were blanketed in thick layers of hail after a powerful storm swept through the region on October 13. Footage captured by local residents shows roads and sidewalks covered in ice, cars navigating flooded streets, and pedestrians making their way through the unusual conditions. The storm brought torrential rain, intense thunderstorms and widespread flooding. A rare EF0 tornado was also reported in Estación Central, while power outages affected thousands of homes. The extreme weather struck during the Southern Hemisphere’s spring season, creating scenes that looked more like winter than October.
