Cusco, Peru – A forest fire was reported in the Quillabamba area on 12 October as multiple fires started or reignited across the Cusco region, with X user El Nano filming flames spreading through dry vegetation.
Official reports from Peru’s COEN-INDECI confirmed fires in several districts, including Colquemarca, in Chumbivilcas province, where incidents were reported in the Totorani annex and the community of Charamuray, as well as in Chamaca.
Early assessments indicated that around 100 hectares of vegetation had been consumed in some of the fires. Municipal personnel, police officers and residents took part in efforts to control and extinguish the blazes.
No injuries or fatalities were reported in connection with the fires that started on 12 October.
The incidents occurred amid a wider pattern of dry-season wildfires across southern Peru, where high temperatures and strong winds have contributed to fire conditions.
