Colima, Mexico – Muddy floodwater swept across a major highway on 11 October after heavy rainfall from Hurricane Simon caused a tributary to overflow at Puente Panteones.
Footage released by Protección Civil Estatal Colima shows muddy water flowing across the Autopista Colima–Manzanillo, near kilometer 87.5, as trucks and cars approached the flooded section. Traffic cones and barriers were placed around the affected roadway.
Civil protection authorities urged drivers to avoid the area and warned against attempting to cross the floodwater. Mud and debris obstructed the highway, with restrictions at times allowing only heavy vehicles through while lighter vehicles were diverted to the free road.
The flooding was one of several road impacts reported in Colima during the passage of Hurricane Simon, which had reached Category 4 strength.
