A major accident was narrowly averted during a Congress protest in Silwani, Raisen district, Madhya Pradesh, on October 8. Congress workers were protesting against the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR, of electoral rolls and attempting to burn an effigy of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. During the effigy burning, petrol splashed onto a Youth Congress worker, and his clothes suddenly caught fire. The worker immediately removed his T-shirt as flames spread. A fire brigade vehicle was present at the spot, and water was sprayed to extinguish the fire, preventing the situation from escalating further. The incident took place at Bajrang Chauraha in Silwani and was captured on camera. The footage has since circulated widely.
