Spanish Flag Burned During Catalan Independence Rally in Barcelona

Masked protesters burned a Spanish flag during a Catalan independence rally in central Barcelona on October 1, marking the ninth anniversary of the 2017 independence referendum. The footage shows protesters gathered around the burning flag while some participants wave Estelada independence flags and chant slogans against Spain. Around 600 people attended the demonstration, which was organized by the Catalan National Assembly (ANC), the Committees for the Defence of the Republic (CDR) and the Assemblea de Joves. The march began at Plaça Urquinaona and continued along Via Laietana before ending near the National Police headquarters. Later, tensions escalated in the area, with masked protesters throwing objects and pyrotechnics at police and setting several rubbish containers on fire.
