Crowd Rushes to Take Liquor Bottles After Truck Crashes in Bihar’s Araria

A liquor-laden mini-truck crashed near the Gitwas toll plaza on the Araria-Raniganj road in Bihar’s Araria district on October 2, 2026. The vehicle reportedly hit a passenger shed before crashing into a road divider. The driver and cleaner fled the scene after the accident. As bottles from the consignment spilled onto the road, a large crowd gathered around the damaged vehicle. People were seen picking up individual bottles, while others carried away entire cartons. Footage from the scene also shows women, children, elderly people and young men among those collecting the liquor. According to local reports, much of the consignment was taken away within around 15 to 20 minutes, before police reached the spot. Police seized the damaged vehicle and began examining footage to identify people who allegedly took the bottles. Authorities are also investigating the truck’s owner and the source and intended destination of the liquor consignment. The incident comes against the backdrop of Bihar’s prohibition law. The state has enforced complete prohibition on liquor since April 2016 under the Bihar Prohibition and Excise Act.
