A fire broke out at the Lycée Nelson Mandela in Nantes, France, on October 1, 2026, causing major damage to parts of the school building.
According to school officials, the fire was deliberately started with a burning bin during a student blockade and later spread to the entrance hall, self-service area and some internal rooms. No injuries were reported.
The incident took place during a nationwide day of protests at high schools over teacher shortages and school facility conditions. Several schools in Nantes were also affected.
