Monkey Enters Ranchi Liquor Shop, Reportedly Drinks Alcohol and Falls Asleep on Boxes

An unusual incident was reported from Ormanjhi in Ranchi, Jharkhand, where a female monkey entered a liquor shop near Block Chowk and reportedly drank alcohol before falling asleep inside the premises. According to reports, shop staff initially tried to drive the monkey away and even offered it biscuits, but the animal remained inside the shop. It then reportedly picked up a bottle of liquor, opened it and drank from it. The monkey later appeared drowsy and climbed onto cartons kept inside the shop, where it fell asleep. Footage recorded at the scene shows the animal lying peacefully on top of liquor boxes and briefly opening its eyes when people approached. Local reports also said the monkey had reportedly entered the premises a day earlier and attacked a staff member when an attempt was made to drive it away. A crowd gathered outside the shop after news of the unusual incident spread. A rescue team was subsequently called to safely remove the animal from the premises. Later reports said the monkey regained consciousness and left the shop. There are differing reports about the quantity and type of alcohol consumed. Some reports identified the bottle as vodka, while others said the animal drank from a liquor bottle. The exact amount consumed has not been independently established. The claim that the monkey was pregnant was also made by people at the scene but has not been independently verified.
