A woman and her daughter fell into a rain-filled pit on Jashpur Road near Padra in Vadodara district, Gujarat.
CCTV footage shows the two walking along the waterlogged road before suddenly falling into the deep pit, which was hidden under standing rainwater.
According to local reports, the pit had been dug alongside the road as part of work to install a new drainage line. The excavation had reportedly not been properly filled or secured, while heavy rain caused water to accumulate around the area.
The woman and her daughter were unable to see the pit because it was covered by rainwater.
After noticing the incident, nearby residents immediately rushed to their aid and helped pull both of them out.
The incident has raised questions over safety measures at ongoing drainage work, particularly during heavy rainfall, when open excavations can become difficult to identify.
The incident occurred near the Padra-Jashpur crossing in Vadodara district, and CCTV footage of the rescue has since emerged.
