Bhubaneswar, Odisha: Classical music is now being considered as a way to help two rescued orangutans recover from stress at Nandankanan Zoo in Bhubaneswar. The orangutans, rescued in Balasore amid a suspected smuggling investigation, are currently undergoing treatment. Their sample collection has been postponed for around 10 days as the animals are reportedly under stress. Experts from Mysuru Zoo and the Wildlife Institute of India will assess their mental and behavioural condition. Officials say their moods have been fluctuating and they are not playing normally. To help them relax, music therapy, including classical music, is being considered. A swing has also been provided to keep the animals active and help reduce their stress. Experts also suspect the orangutans may have developed respiratory infections after exposure to sea air during transportation. Their separation from their mother is another possible reason for their mental distress. Meanwhile, the investigation into their suspected illegal transportation continues, with the STF, Forest Department and Wildlife Crime Control Bureau teams examining CCTV footage and following leads towards Kolkata.
