Quarter-Sized Hail Pounds Pittsburgh Area As Severe Storms Bring 80-MPH Winds

Severe thunderstorms battered western Pennsylvania on September 3, unleashing large hail, powerful winds and torrential rain.
Footage captured by Cary Kelly (@CaryKelly11) shows quarter-sized hailstones bouncing across a suburban sidewalk and grass as heavy rain pours down, with parked cars visible nearby.
The National Weather Service reported hail up to 1.5 inches and wind gusts reaching 80 miles per hour across the region.
The storms also triggered flash flooding, downed trees and widespread power outages, with more than 100,000 customers affected.
Pittsburgh recorded 2.19 inches of rain on September 3, setting a daily rainfall record, with the downpour described locally as a 1-in-100-year rainfall event.
