‘MOTHERSHIP’ SUPERCELL LOOMS OVER NEW YORK AS TORNADO WARNING ISSUED

NEW YORK, USA | SEPTEMBER 3, 2026 A massive supercell storm towered over rural fields near Elba in Genesee County, New York, creating a striking “mothership” appearance in the sky. Footage captured by storm chaser and Cornell meteorology student @kev_weather shows the storm’s enormous structure, with a prominent shelf cloud and an ominously dark base stretching across the horizon. The dramatic storm developed amid a period of severe weather across western and central New York, where tornado watches and warnings were issued. The National Weather Service reported a confirmed tornado near Byron in Genesee County during the severe weather outbreak, with the storm moving southeast and posing a threat of damaging winds, hail and flying debris. The powerful storm system brought dangerous conditions across the region, with multiple communities placed under tornado and severe thunderstorm warnings.
