Massive Fire Sweeps Through Historic Shopping Street In Japan’s Ise

ISE, JAPAN: Footage captured by @shima_nekotan shows thick smoke billowing from a major fire that broke out in Ise’s historic Meirin Shopping Street on August 31.
The fire started at around 3:15 PM near Ujiyamada Station and rapidly spread through the densely packed wooden buildings in the shopping arcade.
Authorities issued evacuation orders for 249 households, affecting 528 people, as firefighters battled the blaze for around four hours before bringing it under control.
The post-war shopping district, which had around 20 active stores, suffered extensive damage. No injuries or missing persons were reported, while authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.
