Dramatic footage from Miyazaki Airport in Japan shows thick white smoke rapidly filling the departure lounge around 4 PM local time on August 27.
The smoke spread through the waiting area, leaving ceilings and gate signs barely visible as passengers moved through the haze amid confusion and panic.
The filmer reported difficulty breathing, while witnesses described a burning rubber or scorched smell. Airport officials later confirmed the incident was not a fire.
Security screening was temporarily suspended for around 30 minutes as authorities investigated the source of the smoke. No injuries were reported, although some flights experienced minor delays.
The cause was being investigated, with a possible mechanical or air-system issue under examination.
