Haneda Airport Shakes as M5.9 Earthquake Strikes Southern Ibaraki, Japan

Passengers at Tokyo’s Haneda Airport were jolted by an earthquake in the early hours of August 23, as strong shaking triggered loud public alerts inside the terminal.
The magnitude 5.9 earthquake was centered in southern Ibaraki Prefecture at around 2 a.m. JST, sending tremors across the wider Kanto region.
Footage filmed by K Sato shows the airport terminal shaking as warning announcements activate. Airport LCD screens also displayed bilingual earthquake alerts, urging passengers to remain calm and be careful of further shaking.
The earthquake reportedly left 37 people with minor injuries across the Kanto region and caused some transport disruptions. No tsunami or major structural damage was reported at Haneda Airport.
