Dramatic CCTV footage captures the moment a seven-storey under-construction building suddenly collapsed in Anjaiah Nagar, near Gachibowli in Hyderabad, on Saturday. The entire structure can be seen giving way in a matter of seconds, sending a huge cloud of dust and debris into the surrounding area. The collapse also damaged the neighbouring Jayadarshini Apartment, leaving several flats significantly affected. Two construction workers were killed in the incident, while others were injured. Rescue teams, including the NDRF, searched through the rubble for possible survivors. Officials said the building was reportedly unauthorised and had been constructed on a plot of around 50 square yards close to a nala. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the collapse, including alleged violations and construction-related concerns. HYDRAA Commissioner A.V. Ranganath inspected the site along with CMC officials and ordered scrutiny of other potentially unsafe or unauthorised buildings in the area. Officials also inspected the damaged neighbouring apartment and advised residents to stay away from the affected portion until its structural safety is assessed. Authorities have since begun a wider enforcement drive in Anjaiah Nagar, where officials say similar unauthorised structures will be examined. The collapse has raised fresh questions over building safety and enforcement in one of Hyderabad’s rapidly developing areas.
