A massive landslide struck the Nagnala area of Kataula in Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district on Saturday, August 22, as a large section of the mountain suddenly collapsed into a stream.
The falling debris slammed into the water channel, causing the flow to surge dramatically. Local residents reported that waves of water rose nearly 30 feet following the impact.
The incident occurred amid heavy monsoon rainfall across Himachal Pradesh, which has triggered landslides and disrupted normal life in several parts of the state.
Following the landslide, authorities evacuated three nearby houses as a precaution, while officials continued monitoring the area for the possibility of further slope movement. No deaths or injuries were reported in the incident.
The situation highlights the risks faced by communities in Himachal’s mountainous regions during periods of intense rainfall, when saturated slopes can become unstable and suddenly collapse.
