A truck carrying a large load of PET bottles lost control on a steep downhill road near Kobe University in Japan on August 20, crashing into a utility pole and guardrail. Dashcam footage shows the vehicle being towed downhill before suddenly veering out of control at an intersection, striking the roadside infrastructure as sparks and debris can be seen flying. The driver reportedly said the truck's brakes failed while descending the road from Mount Rokko, a route known for steep slopes and sharp curves. The crash caused a power outage affecting around 420 households. No fatalities were reported. The stretch has reportedly experienced multiple similar accidents linked to brake problems in recent years, raising concerns over the safety of heavy vehicles using the steep route.
