Heavy rain turned the stairs at Brooklyn’s Prospect Park subway station into a rushing waterfall on August 20, as severe thunderstorms swept across New York City.
Footage captured by Kris Teschner shows torrents of water cascading down the station stairs, with flooding spreading onto the platform and tracks.
The intense storms brought around 2 to 2.3 inches of rain to many parts of New York City, triggering flash flooding, road closures on major highways including the BQE and Long Island Expressway, and water leaks at several transit locations.
The flooding once again highlighted concerns over New York City’s aging transit infrastructure and drainage systems during periods of intense rainfall.
