Water poured down the stairs of the 137th Street–City College 1 train station in Manhattan, turning the entrance into a virtual waterfall during intense rainfall on August 20–21.
NYC Council Majority Leader Shaun Abreu shared the footage while calling for greater investment in climate-resilient public transportation.
Heavy storms brought more than two inches of rain to parts of New York City, causing flash flooding, road closures and water leaks at several subway stations. Service was also disrupted on multiple subway lines, including the 1, 2, 3, A, C and E.
The flooding has renewed concerns over New York City's aging infrastructure and drainage systems, with residents calling for stronger maintenance and upgrades to handle increasingly intense rainfall.
