The world's loneliest gorilla has turned 40 as animal rights activists continue the battle to release her from a decrepit shopping mall - so life can finally begin with her first taste of freedom.
Bua Noi, a female western lowland gorilla, was born in captivity and has spent almost all of her life in solitude at the run-down Pata Zoo in Bangkok, never having touched grass on her feet.
