The Thai army is building a permanent military base in a disputed area as Cambodian troops retreated from the Thai border.
The Trat Marine Task Force seized the contested stretch of land near Ban Nong Ri village in Trat province on Wednesday, following nine days of fierce clashes that left five Thai soldiers injured.
Rear Admiral Parach Rattanachaiphan, spokesman for the Trat Marine Task Force, said intermittent fighting broke out as Cambodian forces tried to recapture the area before they were driven out by supporting Thai F-16 planes and artillery fire.
