Newborn loggerhead turtles 'feel the earth's magentic field'

Researchers have found that hatchling loggerhead turtles can sense the Earth's magnetic field, using an innate 'magnetic map' to navigate.

Hatchlings begin their journey from the beach where they were born, travelling thousands of kilometres over the course of decades. They carry a magnetic compass that guides their direction and a magnetic map that helps them determine their position.
