Researchers at the Okinawa Institute of Science and Technology (OIST) said they have achieved a breakthrough in squid aquaculture by identifying and treating a newly discovered species of parasitic copepod.
The parasite was named Ikanecator primus for its devastating impact on squid eggs. Scientists added the parasite posed a significant threat and caused high mortality rates among hatchlings in aquaculture settings.
