Scientists at the Institute of Nuclear Physics of the Polish Academy of Sciences have discovered that the size and shape of gold nanoparticles play a role in their lethality on cancer cells.
Dr. Eng. Joanna Depciuch-Czarny, leading the study, explained that spherical nanoparticles measuring 10 nanometres showed minimal toxicity to glioma cells compared with larger star-shaped nanoparticles, up to 200 nanometres in size, which demonstrated significant toxicity.
