An Asian Twitch streamer was met with racist remarks while she was broadcasting on a trip in Brussels, Belgium.
Thai woman 'ppim' was walking along a street recording herself in the city at around 1:20 am on July 12 when she encountered a group of men greeting her sarcastically with 'Nihao!' - a Chinese phrase meaning hello.
Ppim hit back at them, saying: 'I'm not from China, stop saying 'Nihao'. That is f****** racist.'
But the men continued mocking the offended streamer, hurling curses at her as they walked away laughing. One of the group tried to touch her shoulder before she angrily brushed him away.
Several minutes later, Ppim - still in the middle of her 'in real life' broadcast - told the hotel receptionist about the incident. They defended the men, saying it was a nomal phrase because she 'looked Chinese'.
The stream scolded him and said he should read more about racism, to which the front desk clerk replied: 'But you look Chinese!' apparently gesturing at his eyes.
Ppim called him out and said: 'Yeah, you can say 'Hello' but not 'Nihao', maybe you should read more about racism. Maybe you should know.'
Writing online, a furious Ppim, from Thailand, said: 'And for this hostel, staff who work here should know customers come from around the world. Asia doesn't have only one country and the fact that he said I have small eyes and look like Chinese, I can see how much he is uneducated. It's not normal to say 'ni hao' to Asian people.'
'Thank you for the many people who stood up for me (online). After seeing idiotic comments, I can see how a lot are ignorant and think this is normal. The reason I look mad is because some kids also passed by with scooters and shouted 'ni hao' at me. It wasn't funny.'
