Captain Calamity! Homemade Russian boats set sail from beach

Captain Calamity sailors took to the seas in their own bizarre home made boats.

The would-be seamen and women launched their amusing vessels into the Gulf of Finland from the beach in Saint Petersburg, Russia, on August 17.

But there was no chance of the naval disasters annexing neighbouring territories – with many of the captains struggling to paddle anything more than a fraction of a nautical mile.

The colourful collection included a fire engine manned by sailors in firefigters’ costumes, a Titanic cruiser complete with Rose and Jack recreating the movie’s iconic pose and even a raft made from recycled bottles complete with attractive dancers in bikinis.

The annual event draws in participants from around the world and hundreds of spectators watching the hilarious spectacle.
